Louise West Lace Design
Designer, Maker & Teacher
I design, make and publish lace patterns for lacemakers to buy worldwide, and teach classes locally, nationally and internationally by appointment. I specialise in the English laces of Bedfordshire and Bucks Point lace.
Two years ago I launched digital laser cut patterns – Ready to work, no pattern preparation is needed, and these are all patterns and books are available through my website. This makes lacemaking more accessible, when people are finding the preparation difficult through disabilities or shortage of time. The patterns are extremely accurate and enable the lacemaker to produce a higher standard of lace.
I am currently filming and posting techniques videos on my YouTube channel to help lacemakers during the current crisis, and further supporting them through an online weekly meeting.
I have a wide range of experience in Bobbin lacemaking, both traditional techniques and formats through to contemporary lace, from graduating with an MA in Art and Design in Contemporary lace in 2013 from the University of Derby, and have worked on some large scale commissions for Nottingham Contemporary and National Trust at Kedleston Hall.
